Noynoy declares: Mar Roxas is his only Vice President

Liberal Party candidate for President, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III,  assured the people yesterday that Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II is his only running mate.

Gusto ko iliwanag, sa akin kandidato ko kaisa-isa kong partner sa laban na ito, si Mar, dahil sigurado akong ipagpatuloy niya kung sakaling di ko kayanin (I want to make it clear that I have only one candidate and one partner in this fight, and that is Mar, because I am certain he will finish what I have begun),” he said.

Aquino issued the statement amid speculation that there is a growing support for an Aquino tandem with Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay, the vice presidential bet of Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino.

Sen. Francis Escudero, who is also supporting the Aquino campaign, had endorsed Binay, the running mate of PMP standard-bearer former President Joseph Estrada.

PMP accuses Villar of being a copycat

Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino spokesman Ralph Calinisan accused Nacionalista Party presidential bet Sen. Manny Villar’s campaign of copying a campaign ad of Argentinean presidential hopeful Ricardo Hipolito Lopez Murphy.

Calinisan said, “The concept, visual cues and even the execution are identical. There is no other way to describe Sen. Villar’s but a cheap rip-off of the original.”

The ad features numerous phrases read sequentially, but when subsequently read in reverse, the phrases convey a different meaning. The viewer’s attention is guided by a bar that highlights the current phrase being read.

He (Villar) even chose orange as his official campaign color, obviously mimicking President Joseph Estrada who has been using orange as his official campaign color for more than 20 years,” Calinisan added.

Disqualify Villar over campaign ads – PMP

Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino dared the Commission on Elections to disqualify any candidate who has violated the Omnibus Election Code, particularly the limit set on airtime for his or her campaign advertisements.

This is an acid test for our poll officials, and if they fail this one, then the results of the May 2010 national elections will forever be put in doubt,” PMP spokesman Ralph Calinisan said.

Calinisan was reacting to the report recently by the advocacy group, Pera at Pulitika, and based on the data from the AGB Nielsen Media Research, which showed that Nacionalista Party president candidate Sen. Manny Villar has already exceeded his alloted airtime for TV campaign ads, totalling 2,054 minutes.

Erap gets warm welcome in Ilocos Sur

Former President Joseph Estrada was at a loss for words in describing how warmly he was received by the people of Ilocos Sur, the bailiwick of his former friend turned accuser, former Ilocos Sur Gov. and now Deputy National Security Adviser Luis Chavit Singson.

“I am very happy about the warm welcome given me here”, Estrada told reporters before partaking of a sumptuous lunch hosted by Candon City Mayor Allen Singson, son of Ilocos Sur Rep. Eric Singson and a distant relative of Chavit.

He noted that when he won in 1998 Ilocos Sur was one of the provinces which got a big chunk of government projects that amounted to over P5 billion under his administration.

“There were a lot of projects that my administration earmarked for Ilocos Sur, as payment of my debt of gratitude to the people of Ilocos sur. They have given me their big trust in 1998,” he said.
