Bayani Fernando claims 90% Lakas Support as Vice President

Bayani Fernando, Bagumbayan Vice-presidential candidate said he is confident of winning “at least 90 percent” of support of the members of the ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD. Fernando said they are supporting him instead of the Lakas official candidate, actor Edu Manzano.

I am their most logical ally,” said Fernando.

Fernando is the running mate of Senator Richard Gordon of the Bagumbayan Party ( “The Transformers” ). Fernando abandoned his original plan to run for president after the Lakas-Kampi-CMD national executive committee picked then Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro over him as the administration candidate.

Richard Gordon said that it was all right if Lakas-Kampi-CMD members to support Fernando. He said: “That’s good, if Lakas members are supporting him. I want him to win because he is better than any of the other (vice presidential) candidates.”

Gordon denied speculations of a rift between him and Fernando as they are rarely seen campaigning together. Fernando explained that he and Gordon are rarely seen together because they sometimes have conflicting schedules. Bayani added that Gordon is often invited to presidential forums.

Philippine Star interviews Richard Juico Gordon

The Philippine STAR has started a series of interviews, in no particular order, with candidates for president. It recently interviewed Richard Gordon.

Quick quips:

  • Teachers are the key. Pay teachers P40,000 but they should deliver.
  • Break cycle of oligarchy controlling government before investing in infrastructure. Focus on good governance.
  • Focus on improving Air Force and Navy. RP should build own ships using funds from expanded tax base.
  • Health Education Acceleration Program (HEAP). Raise the salaries of doctors to P50,000 provided they will work and serve in the provinces. Funding will come from tax on text
  • Ensure participation of the people. Have an office 24/7 so people can call and report wrongdoing. Government and people must be part of the process of change. Enact Whistleblower Law.

Bayani Fernando Declares Massive Brownouts Caused by Government Engineering Incompetence

Bagumbayan Vice presidential candidate Bayani Fernando said “The simultaneous shutting down of power plants for, accordingly, maintenance purposes, the poor inventory of power source and requirements and the poor anticipation of the ‘el niño phenomenon’ are just some of the proofs of engineering incompetence of our energy officials,”

In the news, Metro Manila and some provinces in Luzon and have gone through a debilitating series of two- to three-hour brownouts everyday for the past few weeks after the 540-megawatt (MW) Limay combined cycle power plant in Bataan and the Malampaya gas power plant were shut down for maintenance.

Bayani, a Mechanical Engineer and former Chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority explained that energy officials should have come up with a doable measure to avoid power shortage and to come up with an ideal schedule of maintaining and upgrading the power plants in the country and not doing it simultaneously especially on this period when National Election is just around the corner.
